Happy New Year! Here’s a healthy eating tip to start your year off right!

To start your year off right make sure you are eating your fruits and vegetables on a daily basis. You should include “color” at every meal; try to keep 50% of your meal fruits and/or vegetables – you will get a lot of food for few calories.  Also you get the added benefit of fiber, water, and beneficial nutrients.

  1. 50% of your meal fruit &/or vegetables
  2. 25% of your meal protein (chicken, pork, beef, fish, seafood, soybean, quinoa, etc.)
  3. 25% starch (remember corn and peas are considered starch).

Include a dairy source at each meal for calcium and vitamin D.
